Jeffrey Lynn Porter, Sr., 47, of Hickory, NC went home to the Lord Sunday, September 16, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jeff was born February 17, 1971 in Morganton, NC to the late Reverend Richard Eugene Porter and Mrs. Gladys Irene Porter. He is survived by his loving family; wife Joy Janine Porter; his son Jeffrey Lynn Porter, Jr and his wife Rebekah of Burlington, NC; his daughter Makayla Skye Porter of Hickory, NC; his mother Mrs. Gladys Irene Porter; brothers Richard Eugene Porter Jr of Nebo, NC and Randall Porter of Taylorsville, NC; sisters Alice Boston of Vale, NC, Rebecca Porter of Granite Falls, NC, and histwinJennifer Lynn Porter of Flagler Beach, FL.
Jeff was proud of his time spent in ROTC in high school as well as his service in the Civil Air Patrol and Army. He served local communities with his involvement with BLET Law Enforcement. He worked many years in private security as well. Jeff loved the Lord, his family, and his country. He also loved fishing and making people laugh, as well as spending time in the mountains. He was known to be honest and hard working his whole life. In his own battle with cancer, he took the time to help and comfort others who were going through the same thing as a way to give back. His kind spirit will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Viewmont Baptist Church in Hickory, NC with pastors Andrew Rowls and Rick Jordan officiating. The family will receive friends and family at the church starting at 1 pm, prior to the memorial service. Please visit jenkinsfuneralhome.net to register condolences. The family respectfully requests donations to the American Cancer Society or the Police Benevolent Foundation in lieu of flowers.
