You were gone before we knew it. Mr. Jelani ?Lani? Akida Rashod McCorkle, son of Glenda Loretta Mccorkle was born on June 14, 1983. He departed this life on Friday, March 9, 2012 at Wake Forest Medical Center in Winston Salem, N.C. Jelani accepted Christ at an early age at Morningstar First Baptist Church, a young man of Great Faith. Jelani?s joy was his children and his passion for antique cars. Jelani?s life was side lined in 2003 by an accident. In spite of his disability, life continued on for him. He was a trooper and continued to stay active. He would not allow anyone or anything to hold him down. Jelani never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew him. In addition to his mother, Glenda McCorkle of the home; two daughters, Janelle and Chaniya Knox of Pontiac, Michigan; a son, Cameron Danielle Corpening of Hickory; an adopted son, Darien White of Hickory; a brother, Jamar Covington of Hickory; a foster brother, Michael Kewon Mason of Catawba; his maternal grand-father, Alfred McCorkle of Hickory; special cousins, Alfred Marques McCorkle of Hickory; and Cousin Essie Farrer of Hickory, N.C.; four Uncles, George Cosby and wife Denise of Detroit, Michigan, Stephen McCorkle and wife Shantel of Trenton, N.J., Johnny McCorkle and wife Helen of Lenoir, N.C., and Michael Cosby of Hickory; special friend, Treniece Mull of Hickory; four Aunts, Karen Brice and husband Willie of Catawba, N.C., Judy and Sandra McCorkle of Hickory, N.C., Esther Lytle and husband Terrell of Lenoir, N.C.; a great Aunt, Lela Johnson of Davidson, NC God sisters and God brothers; Leron Dow, Robin Dow, Derick and Annette Dow Johnson, all of New York; God mother, Ann Dow of New York; and God father, Franklin McKnight of Newton and special friends, Prenell Watts, Dasher Wilcher, Elisa ?Toy? Collins, Ashley Hammonds, Moosie Jones, Flav Lineberger and Chris Rowe survive him. His maternal grandmother, Flora Horton McCorkle preceded him in death.
