Jerry Dean Mellon, Sr. of Hog Hill Road, Vale died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at his home. Born June 12, 1945, he was the son of the late Gaston Daniel Mellon and Bessie Corene Porter Mellon. Jerry lived the last 7 ½ years of his life as a devoted servant of Christ. He worked for Gary Fox for many, many years. In addition to his wife of 46 years, Doris Ellene Helton Mellon of the home; two daughters, Vicki Moore and husband Kevin of Vale and Sherri Laureda and husband Nick of Vale; a son, Jerry Dean Mellon Jr. and wife Shelley of Cherryville; a sister, Linda Campbell of Roan Mtn., TN; four brothers, Dale Mellon and wife Lois of Maiden, Jimmy Mellon and wife Mary of Granite Falls, Billy Joe Mellon and wife Tammy of Waynesville, NC and Danny Mellon of Waco, NC; 7 grand-children and a great grandson, Alexander who is on the way, survive him. A sister, Elizabeth Mellon and three brothers, Charles, Norris and Don Mellon preceded him in death. The Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 pm Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Unity Missionary Baptist Church in Hickory. Pastor?s Rick Davis, Dale Mellon and Eric Blankenship will officiate. The family will fellowship after the service, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
