Jerry Wagner

December 31, 1969 — August 22, 2024

Jerry Lynwood Wagner departed this life on August 22, 2024, in Hickory, NC, on his 76th birthday, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on August 22, 1948, in Blountville, Tennessee, to the late Polly and Harold Wagner. During his childhood, Jerry worked on the family farm, developing the strong work ethic that would define his life. He attended Holston High School and was a talented athlete, playing basketball and running track. He also was an award winning member of 4H. Jerry continued his education at Hiwassee College before transferring to the University of Tennessee, where he earned a degree in Agriculture. His career led him to work for Pet Dairy and later with Merita Bread, from which he eventually retired.

Jerry became a beloved member of the Mountain View community in Hickory. He dedicated his time to Mountain View Recreation, serving as president and coaching his children's sports teams. His love for his family was evident in everything he did, and he was known affectionately as "Pops" to his beloved grandchildren.

Pops was small and unassuming in stature but his heart, work ethic, and intelligence were immeasurable. He loved his family unconditionally and everything Tennessee orange. He was an avid Tennessee fan and never missed an opportunity to watch a Tennessee game, regardless of the sport.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Wagner; his children, Jeff Wagner and wife Cynthia; Jeremy Wagner and fiancée Chauntay Beam, and daughter Jennifer Weaver and husband Bryan. He also leaves behind his brother, Tommy Wagner and wife Kelly; sister, Evelyn Helvey and husband Robert; and his grandchildren, Caroline and Tate Wagner with mother Sophie Tate, and Janelle Bolick with father Johan Bolick.

Jerry will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, dedication, and service to his family and community will live on in the hearts of many. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 27, 2024 from 10AM-11AM followed by the service at 11AM. Burial will follow at Jenkins Cemetery. Pastor Nathan Yoder will officiate. Memorial donations can be made in his honor to St. Martins Lutheran Church in Maiden. Honorary pallbearers are Jeffrey Wagner, Jeremy Wagner, Tate Wagner and Bryan Weaver.
