Jesus Torres

March 25, 1978 — December 22, 2020

We are here today to celebrate the life and death of Jesus (Lucky) Torres. On behalf of the Torres family, I would like to begin by thanking everyone that is here today and for those who have sent their condolences. We have received countless phone calls, texts, meals, visits, donations, and flowers. They have been both comforting and a reminder of the impact that Jesus (Lucky) had on so many others.

He was born in Salinas, California. His parents were migrant field workers and traveled within California for work. However, he called Soledad, California home. His parents moved to North Carolina in 1998. He stayed in California to be with his brother Ismael for two years before he could come to North Carolina. That is the kind of brother that he was, one who was always there for his siblings and never left anyone behind.

Lucky really brought so much joy into his family. As many of you know, he always had random funny sayings for every situation. He loved to make people smile. He did not have children of his own, but he loved his nieces and nephews so much. He was there for them like if they were his own. He was so full of life, and despite his illness he always smiled.

We would like to mention a little bit about his illness. Almost two years ago Lucky was diagnosed with Scleroderma, a type of Lupus. This illness causes inflammation on all of his organs. When a virus is present, this illness attacks his entire body. In March of 2019, he had major heart failure due to having the flu. That time, he was able to be healed and he stayed relatively healthy over the last year. However, only he knew how much he really suffered. We watched his hands turned black from not getting enough blood flow. We watched him sweat so much from his heart failure. We watched him hurt so bad, but still try to remain happy for all of us. When he got COVID this year, his body could not handle it and God called him home.

Lucky was a unique soul, and each and every one of us knew that from our different interactions with him. He enjoyed listening to various music genres from regional Mexican music, to reggae, and Italian rap. He loved watching the 49ers play football. He enjoyed trying new recipes and he thought he was a chef. The past few years he enjoyed watching travel vlogs and was so excited to travel to Mexico with his family last year. On that Mexico trip he saw family that he had not seen since he lived in California and since he was little visiting Mexico. He enjoyed the trip and got to see a lot of Mexico. He even got to see the inside of the jail because him and his brother in law could not hold in their pee. That trip was a great way to say goodbye.

He enjoyed giving everyone a nickname and he remains alive inside of his family’s hearts. He is survived by Jesus & Guadalupe Torres. His siblings, Lupe (la lela), Ismael (Cuy), Francisco (Kid) & Nereida. His nieces Jasmine (Jaz), Josselyn (Cejitas), Angela (Ques), Jaime (tito locs), Jacob (Toy Story), Marina (Nina), Laila (Fartley), Jayliana (Nana), Adalynn (Guera), Isaac (his God son: papas). In laws Antonio (Tony Boloni) and Kandi (Loser). His nieces partners Jarot (jarok fork) and Yazmeen. Great nieces and nephews Beckham (Becks), Imani (Mani), Mila & Messiah. He has been received in Heaven by his maternal and paternal grandparents, Josiah, and his niece Jayleigh. Tomorrow we will bury him, and even after 15 years of his niece being buried, there is a plot open to let him rest eternally beside of her. It is no coincidence that Even in death he is still being the loving and caring uncle that he was for most of his life.

We are thankful for the years that we have gotten to spend with him. We are thankful that he was a part of our life. We will miss watching him make his coffee in the morning and learn to play the guitar, seeing him be a kid-at-heart with all of our children, and sing the loudest happy birthday’s. However, even in our sadness we are at peace knowing that he is with God and no longer suffering. We hope you rest in peace Lucky,

Love your family.
