Jo Morrison

Mary Josephine (Jo) Morrison, 60, of Conover passed away Friday, October 18, 2019 at Carolina Caring, Newton, NC. Born December 21, 1958, Jo was the daughter of Samuel Bruce Morrison and Hazel Jones Morrison. Preceding her in death were her parents and sister, Nancy Johnson and brother, Donnie Morrison.
Those left to cherish her memory include son, Justin Morrison, wife Christina, granddaughter Alexis and grandson Declan of Granite Falls, NC; her sister Nadine and husband Melvin Ritchie of Meadowview, VA, and brother Ronnie Morrison of Bristol, VA; her loving partner Beverly Frye; and, special friends and caregivers, Dallas and Laura Tribble and Lee Crissman. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In 2008 Jo was diagnosed with Hemangiopericytoma, a rare form of Sarcoma cancer. She had multiple surgeries, experimental chemotherapy and radiation. In 2017, not knowing how much of a fighter Jo was, the doctors gave her only 6 months to live. At that time over a hundred friends and family gathered to celebrate Jo's birthday. Jo continued to defy the odds and lived almost another two years.
In the last days of her life, one of Jo's last wishes was to celebrate Christmas with her family. With the assistance of her Carolina Caring team, Pastor Rob Lee and wife, Stephanie made the Christmas celebration happen. Surrounding her bedside, family and friends sang Christmas carols and then enjoyed a Christmas meal. Then it was time to open presents for the grandchildren. Just as Jo had requested, it was truly a Christmas celebration.
The family would like to express gratitude to the many friends and family for all the wonderful stories and memories shared throughout Jo’s last week while at Carolina Caring. A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 3, 2019, at Unifour Christian Fellowship Church, located at 2257 Old Conover Startown Road Newton, NC 28658. Being the avid Duke University fan, Jo requested for those in attendance to please wear “Duke Blue!”
