Joan Starrett Motes, 87, of Gastonia passed away Tuesday, December 20th, 2022 at Abernethy Laurels. Born May 10th, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Cleveland Parks Starrett and Lessie Norris Starrett.
Joan was a member of the Eastside Church of the Nazarene in Gastonia and often played piano for the church.
She is survived by her son Jon David Motes and daughter-in-law Janice Motes of Catawba, her grandson Gerrit Motes and wife Katie of New Mexico, her granddaughter Erin Forehand and husband Ben of Cameron, two great-grandchildren, her sister-in-law Joann Bryant and husband Ronnie of Iron Station, and Cindy Southard of San Diego whom Joan loved deeply.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband George Donald Motes.
A private family service is being planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Carolina Caring, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
