Joe Michael Hughes (Mike), passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017. Born June 2, 1956 in Valdese, NC he was the son of Madeline Passmore Hughes Harrison and the late Billy Joe Hughes.
Mike was known as a musician passionate about music and valued his beloved pets. Throughout his life he enjoyed working with his hands from landscaping to woodworking. He excelled in carpentry for the film industry in set design and construction for Screen Gem Studios in Wilmington, NC and throughout the southeast.
Mike quietly departed this life while surrounded by family Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton, NC. He was preceded by his son Jon Michael Hughes and his brother Merlon Ray Hughes. He is survived by his daughter Khristian Nicole Gregor, granddaughter Kelsey Dawn-Marie Gregor, grandson Dean Keith Short III (Trey) from Hildebran, NC, daughter, Kala Smith and grandchildren, Peyton, Nilan and Khloe' Smith of Hickory; son, Michael Sugden of Jacksonville, Fl.; his brother Mark Douglas Hughes, Monroe, NC and half sister Kelly Harrison Clonts from Atlanta, Georgia.
His beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of his family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at a residence, 4-7:00 pm on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at address: 804 Emmanuel Church Road, Conover, NC.
