Joel Bishop

Biography Joel Dean Bishop, 58 of Newton went home to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness on Monday, January 23, 2012 at his residence. Born May 15, 1953 he was the son of the late Virginia Leigh Taylor Hanes. Joel worked for 15 years at Lee Industries and was a 1971 graduate of Newton Conover High School. His wife of 27 years, Debra Carlene Sigmon Bishop of the home; an uncle, William ?Bill? Taylor and wife, Marie of Hickory ; three cousins, Cindy Taylor, Kevin and Mandy Kirby and Jeff and Karen Hedrick; in laws, Clifford and Janie Sigmon of Conover; three sisters in law, Janice Lail, Kathy McConnell and Carolyn Setzer and husband Steve; and three nieces, Carla McConnell, Christine McConnell and Sonya Lail Lackey survive him. In addition to his mother; his maternal grand parents, Charles and Violet Taylor; a brother, Roger Bishop; and cousin, Blake Taylor preceded him in death. The family would like to thank Carolina Oncology and Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley for the kindness and care during Joel?s illness. The funeral will be 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel. David Petterson will officiate. The family will receive friends from 3-4:00 p.m., one hour prior at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in Eastview Cemetery.
