John Chapman

John David Chapman, 79, of Hickory died Monday, April 18, 2022 at his residence. Born September 3rd, 1942 he was the son of Johnny Woodrow Chapman and Irene Lineberger Chapman Finger. He served as Director of the Salvation Army Homeless Shelter for five years and was commissioned as an officer where he served over ten years. He also served in the United States Army for three years in Germany and in the National Guard as a medic for an additional 17 years.

He is survived by his wife Shirley Chapman, two sons, Jonathan Chapman (Angela), and Brent Chapman (Karen); his daughter, Deborah Lawter; his sister, Barbara Champion of Kings Mountain; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, his brother, Paul "Roger" Chapman preceded him in death.

A celebration of his life will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Salvation Army, Hickory. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service and the inurnment will follow at Jenkins Funeral Home Cremation Garden.
