John Darden

December 25, 1945 — February 12, 2017

John Britt Darden 71 of Hickory died Sunday, February 12th, 2017 at his residence. Born December 25th, 1945 he was the son of the late Jamie Holmes Darden and Julia Britt Darden.  John was a 1964 graduate of Crossnore High School where he played football, basketball and baseball. He graduated from CVCC from the the Furniture Production Program. He served his country during 1964-1969 in Germany as a maintenance mechanic serving in the US Army. John was a volunteer for 27 years with the St. Stephens High School Football Team as their Equipment Manager. He worked as a volunteer with Boy Scout Pack/Troop 250. He enjoyed the Pinewood Derby Day as he assisted many young scouts design and produce their derby cars. He enjoyed woodworking, making many items from pom poms to wood. He was active with his church family at Tabernacle Baptist Church.  His wife, Margie Allen Darden of the home; two daughters, Jodie Hall and husband Ken of Hickory and Jill Jackson and husband David of Gloucester, VA and three grandchildren, Jamison Lawson, Marie Lynne Jackson, John Robert Hall and his mother-in-law, Jessie M. Allen survive him. His brother, David H. Darden and his father-in-law, Grover H. Allen preceded him in death. A Celebration of John's life will be 2:30 PM Wednesday February 15, 2017 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Scott Hooks officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the ceremony at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Stephens High School Football Program or to Boy Scout Troop 250 at St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
