John Settlemyre

John Mark Settlemyre 67 of Hickory died June 6th, 2013 at his residence in Caldwell County. Born June 15th, 1945 he was the son of the late Lonsdale Joseph Settlemyre and Era Margaretta Settlemyre. He worked at Nuzum Cross Chevrolet for many years as an auto mechanic and was a truck driver with Gaines Motor Lines for about ten years. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the Outer Banks. He was a consecutive five time track champion at Hickory Motor Speedway. He enjoyed challenges and wanted "it done right." He enjoyed grilling for his family and friends and loved to tell jokes in his special way. He was a dog lover and had many special dogs through the years. His wife of 51 years, Linda Kay Carter Settlemyre of the home; a son, Quintin Settlemyre and wife Regina of Newton; a brother, David Hunt Settlemyre and wife Elaine of Newton; two grandchildren, Joshua Casey Settlemyre and Katelyn Elizabeth Settlemyre of Newton, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive him. Two sisters, Sylvia Ann Propst and Betty Gail Drum; a brother, Charles Lee Settlemyre; and son, John Mark Settlemyre II preceded him in death. The funeral will be 3:00 pm Monday June 10th, 2013 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott Greene officiating. Entombment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. Pallbearers include Allan Hester, Reginald "Pie" Lineberger, Carlos Johnson, Ashley Huffman, Larry Ogle and David King. Honorary Pallbearer will be his grand-son, Joshua Settlemyre. The family will receive friends from 1-2:45 pm Monday June 10th, 2013 at Jenkins Funeral Home.
