John Setzer

John Lawrence Setzer, 84, of Conover passed away Friday, January 4, 2019, at Springs of Catawba. He was born August 6, 1934, in Catawba County, to the late Hewitt and Grace Rosalee McGee Setzer. Lawrence was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Conover. His greatest pastimes in life were fishing and racing. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Audrey Wilson, Zelda Crouch, Doris Seagle and Jean Kanipe. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Doris Goodman Setzer; son, Gregory Setzer and wife, Melissa of Conover,  daughters, Renae Graham of Raleigh, Tammy Peacock and husband Jerry of Destin, Florida, Kimberly Mounts and husband Tim of Taylorsville, sisters, Becky Cody and husband, Charlie of Vale, Judy Thomas and husband, Worth of Newton, Connie Hedrick and husband, Carl of Conover, Faye Lane of Newton; grandchildren, Jennifer Dunn and husband Matt, Nathan Bolick, Candice Reid and husband Julian, Patrick Graham, Christian Graham and fiancé Kelly, Emily Graham, Benjamin Graham, Hannah Setzer, Celeste Yeatts, Levi Ward, Zachary Setzer, Olivia Setzer, Aiden Mounts,  Joseph Dunn and Madison Peacock; great-grandchildren, Marley Reid, Ella Grace Graham and Samuel Ward.

A brother, Hubert Setzer preceded him in death.

A service to celebrate Lawrence’s life will be held at 11:00 am Monday January 7, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Conover. Rev. Rudy DeRosa will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10-11:00 am Monday January 7, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
