John B. ?Buck? Smith, 56 of Catawba Valley Blvd., Hickory died Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born July 24, 1954 he was the son of Florene Childers Smith of Newton and the late Thurman Walter Smith. In addition to his mother Florene; a son, Shawn Burton Smith of Florida; a sister, Bertha L. Bowen of Mississippi; and four brothers, Thomas R. Steel of Florida, Walter D. Smith of Florida, Charles R. Smith of Florida and James W. Smith of Newton, NC survive him. His father, Thurman W.
