Johnnie David Buff, 93, of Newton passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Carolina Caring. Born August 23rd, 1927, he was the son of the late Willis Roosevelt Clark and Johnsie Bell Buff Clark.
Johnnie’s life was spent in service to others. In his youth, he served his country in the U.S. Army. Later, he enjoyed singing and playing in a gospel band for churches and shut ins. He was known throughout the community for his caring heart and was happiest when he knew he could make a difference in the lives of those around him. One of Johnnie’s greatest passions was the ministry of hospice. After his wife Dezzie passed away under hospice care, he became a Carolina Caring volunteer in 1995 where he faithfully served until his death. Johnnie was also instrumental in the building of a hospice campus to serve our area. His steadfast vision resulted in his donation of the land on which the Carolina Caring Campus on Robinson Rd. stands today.
Leaving behind to cherish his memory are special friends; Debbie McCurry, Larry Dean McSwain and wife Elenora Davis McSwain, Ed Carpenter, Jill Rhoney, Chastity Logan, Libby Wells, Sara Waugh, Angie Ingle, Kelly Tate, Jan Clarke, Josh Steelmon, Jimmy Clarke, and Rev. Sandi Hood.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Dezzie Eckard Buff, newborn son Robert Lee Buff, and special companion Jo Carpenter.
