Johnny Lawrence Poovey, 81, of Claremont died Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at his home. Born, April 8th, 1938 he was the son of the late Walter Eugene Poovey and Elsie Pauline Poovey. Johnny (affectionately known as PAPA) served 8 years in the National Guard and was a truck driver (CB handle The Joker) for 50 years for the majority being Pem- Kay Furniture. He was a huge Atlanta Braves Fan and was cheering on Freddie even up to his death. Most importantly he loved his family and never wanted to miss opportunity to spend time with them.
In addition to his wife of 50 years Cindy Poovey, three daughters Andrea S. Faircloth and husband Robert of Anderson, SC, Penny P. Clonch of Hickory, Presley A. Poovey of the home; a son Johnny L. Poovey, Jr. and wife Kimberly of Taylorsville; his brother Walter L. Poovey Jr. of Conover; sister in law Evelyn S. Poovey of Vale; four grandchildren Chad Vaughan, Brandon Faircloth, Blake Faircloth, Conner Poovey, and six great grandchildren survive him.
In addition to his parents, his brother Tommy E. Poovey preceded him in death.
A Celebration of Life will be held 3:00 pm Saturday July 27th, 2019 at Jenkins Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 2-3:00 pm Saturday, July 27th, 2019 at Celebration Center of Jenkins Funeral Home.
