Johnny Pope

Johnny Allen Pope 69 of Morganton, formerly of Hickory died Sunday August 4th, 2013 at Grace Hospital. Born March 21st, 1944 he was the son of Guy Andy Pope and Viola Pope. He enjoyed farming and farm equipment. He enjoyed attending Lenoir-Rhyne ball games with friends.

A daughter, Tracey George of Hildebran; a brother, Paul Pope and wife Brenda of Hickory; two sisters, Louise Brittain and husband Ben of Hickory and Hazel Ann Varnadoe and husband Jim of Hickory; three grandchildren, E.J. Starnes of Hickory, Sydney Richie of Morganton and Kerstin VanHuss of Lenoir; his father-in-law, Aubrey Duncan of Morganton; special friends, Robert C. "Bob" Duckworth and wife Gaye of Hickory survive him.

In addition to his parents, his wife, Thelma Kay Woodie Pope; a son Robert Pope; a daughter Carol Pope Richie; two brothers, William "Billy" Pope and Leonard Wayne Pope preceded him in death.

The funeral will be 4:00 pm Friday August 9th, 2013 at New Covenant Church of God with Rev. Dennis Pitts and Rev. Tim Hartzel officiating.

The family will receive friends at the home of Louise and Ben Brittain following the service.
