Johnny Ray Sigmon

Johnny Ray Sigmon, 70, of Hickory passed away peacefully after a brief illness, Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born December 24, 1953 in Hickory, NC he was the son of the late Charles Ray Sigmon and Ella Catherine Sigmon. He graduated from Hickory High School in 1972 and worked with his father at Sigmon Grading until his retirement. He was a "jack of all trades", wore many hats, and was collector of many things. He was loved by many, never met a stranger and his granddaughters were his world and his children were his life.

Johnny Ray is survived by his wife of 40 years, Vickie Smart Sigmon; daughter, Althea Sigmon Berry and husband Chad Berry; son, Jacob Aaron Sigmon and wife Justine Santolli Sigmon; son, Johnathan Kerry Sigmon and fiancé Vlad Helton; grandchildren, Ella Marie Berry, Kennedy Katherine Sigmon, Braelynn Thersea Sigmon, Wednesday Teague and one more on the way; sister, Ruth Sigmon Weaver and husband Scott Weaver; nieces, Melissa Weaver and Jamison Porcella, Meredith Weaver-Shelton and Matthew Shelton, Kassie Elizabeth Young and Scott Young; nephew, Rick Sigmon; great-nieces, Everly Porcella and Adriana Sigmon; great-great-nephew, Ryan Monahan; brother-in-law, Barry Smart and wife Jamie; numerous cousins and aunts; and special friends Shae Stallings and wife Debbie and Donna Setzer.

His parents, brother Charles Richard Sigmon and sister-in-law Tonya Oxendine Sigmon, preceded him in death.

The funeral will be Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 1:00pm at Jenkins Funeral Home, 4081 Startown Road, Newton, NC 28658. Burial will follow at Oxford Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from11:30 am to 1:00 pm prior to the service.

Memorials may be made to Midway Baptist Church, c/o 1359 Brandywine, Hickory, NC 28602 ,where he was a member all his life.
