Joseph August Bachofner, 97 of Hickory, passed away Sunday, November 3rd, 2019, at his home. He was born July 9th, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Joseph Bachofner and Edna Miller Bachofner.
He was married to his high school sweetheart Margaret Bachofner for 70 years. They owned and operated a dry cleaning business in Grayslake, Illinois until they retired and moved to Taylorsville, NC.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He served his country as an Army Sergeant in World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, two sisters and a son, Lawrence J. Bachofner.
Survivors include his son, Brian J. Bachofner of Cornelius, two daughters, Marcia DeZurik (Chad) of Peoria, Arizona, Maggie Helfert (Tom) of Hickory, NC and one daughter-in-law Cathy Lentine of Ingleside, Illinois.
Surviving grandchildren include, Sean DeZurik, Dyan McDowell, Brian J. Bachofner II, Michael Bachofner, Dana Emery, Stacey Jensen, Kali Bachofner, Joseph A. Bachofner II, John Helfert, Joseph Helfert and Sarah Helfert. Great-Grandchildren include, Tess DeZurik, Kate DeZurik, Skye Oxberger, Camryn Bachofner, Brian J. Bachofner III (Trey), Jackson Emery, Connor Emery, Aiden Emery, Taylor Stevens, Paige Suddreth, and Tanner Jensen. Great-Great Grandchildren include Blake Suddreth, Rylynn Oxberger and Brooklyn Oxberger.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 29, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hickory. Father Larry LoMonaco will officiate.
Jenkins Funeral Home staff is not involved in the memorial service at the church.
