Joseph Lee Robinson (67) of Hickory, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 21, 1956, to the late Benjamin Robinson and Florene (Steele) Robinson in Statesville, North Carolina, Joseph was a beacon of strength and resilience. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, John Long, Alphonso E. Robinson, Robert E. Sharpe, and Mary L. Robinson and his daughter, Kissiha Dalton. Joseph was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and his memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Joseph, affectionately known as Joey, dedicated his life to serving his country and community. He proudly served in the Army as a Drill Sergeant until his retirement in 1995. Following his military service, he worked in various roles, as he continued his service to the state of North Carolina as a Corrections Officer until his retirement in 2020. Even in his retirement, Joey remained active, working as a Parts Expert at AutoZone. Joey was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes. He was a devoted member of St. James Baptist Church, serving on the finance committee and as a trustee. He found joy in his hobbies, such as working on cars, tending to his yard, golfing, and watching NASCAR races. Joey was always ready to lend a hand, offer wise counsel, and provide a listening ear when needed.
Joseph's most cherished legacy is his loving family. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Nancy M. (Shade) Robinson and his children, Janae Robinson and Priest Dalton, and his grandchildren, Tyler and Austin Dalton, were the light of his life. His siblings, Gail (Robinson) Juarez and Benjamin Robinson Jr., and a large extended family of in-laws, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends also share in the grief of his loss. Joseph Lee Robinson, a man of unwavering faith, will be deeply missed. However, his memory will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to have known and loved him.
