In loving memory of Judy K. Monroe Driver, 76, of Hickory, NC, she was a former resident of Lorain, OH. Judy passed away in her home and surrounded by her loved ones Friday, April 28th, 2023. Born, October 21st, 1946, in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late Garvin Monroe and Hilda Monroe Gamper.
Preceded in death by her husband Ronald Driver (Living- sister-in-law Brenda Driver), and sister Nancy Monroe Jergenson (Living- brother-in-law Ronald Jergenson) and a stepfather John Gamper.
Affectionately known as “JuJu” to her family, she is survived by three children, Mollie McElwayne Dula, Amy McElwayne Fincher (Sean), and Jason McElwayne. Five grandchildren, Hannah Reid (Chris), Monica Lutz (Michael), Nathan McElwayne (Chelsea), Stephen Epley, and Abby Knight. Ten great grandchildren, Isabella, Isaiah, and Mia Reid, Mason and Ava Lutz, Cooper, Elliot and Josie McElwayne- (Josie is our family’s miracle baby), Harper Epley, and Crue Delgado. As well as aunts, uncles, cousins, and many special friends.
Judy was a retired nurse who cared for others for over three decades. She began her career at St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain, OH where she worked in many different specialties. She carried on that generous giving role throughout her career in Hickory, NC. Her zest for life led her to many different activities in her community, she was always one to be present in a time of need and attended all friends and family gatherings. She was a big believer in good luck and had a blast at Harrah’s Cassino. Judy also enjoyed reading, playing cards, board games, making ceramics, and she was a huge fan of Jeopardy. In her leisure time at home, she enjoyed the cooking channels and was inspired to cook dishes for her family. Judy’s greatest treasure in life was her family, as well as her dog Ginger. She valued family traditions and was the center of all Holidays, each one having special recipes and time spent making memories.
Pieces of her love are scattered throughout everyone she met, and she will live on in the people who carry her in their heart. She will be forever loved, remembered and missed.

Shuford House and Gardens, 534 3 Rd Ave NW Hickory, NC 28601.
