Kathryn Ann Smith McGhee, 82, died early on Monday, January 14, 2013 at her home. She was born on April 25, 1930, the daughter of the late William D. and Emma Catherine Wingett Smith of Bunker Hill a community outside of Pomeroy, Ohio.
Kathryn spent most of her adult life living and working in Columbus, Ohio. She had different occupations during those years, but Home Health Caregiver was the one she loved and was very proud of her service. She cared deeply for those she spent many days caring for, and they cared greatly for her too.
Kathryn suffered for many years from rheumatoid arthritis. After retiring she moved to Conover, NC for the mild weather. Even though Kathryn moved away from Ohio for her health, her love for Ohio held a large space in her heart. Mainly for her family she still had in Ohio, but she loved watching OSU ball games. She watched all the games on television, enjoyed wearing her OSU shirts, and flying her OSU flag.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ida Mae (Charles) Sargent, Cora (Herman) Wills, Margaret Mae (Bill) Taylor; brothers, Harley A. (Georgia) Smith, Charley D. (Naomi) Smith, Roy O. Smith, Mervin Eugene "Gene" Smith, Billy Jr. Smith, infant Henry Smith, and the father of her children Arthur McGhee.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Charles Arthur (Nancy) McGhee, her daughter, Sandra Kay (Dale) Randall, daughter Katrina Moses; a sister, Virginia Stepp of Conover; numerous grandchildren, including, Leigh Toussant Gurr (Derrick Dayton), Kelly Leigh Randall (Neel) Mead, Kristi Lynn Randall (Adam) Delagrange, Lori Jill McGhee (Chad Klingensmith), and Matthew Jamison McGhee; great-grandchildren, Rayna, Charlie, and Hannah Gurr, Nollynn and Cole DeLaughter, Jacob Klingensmith, Luke Dayton, Jamison McGhee, and Addyson Delagrange. She was also excited for the birth of Lori Jill's baby this summer. Sisters-in-law, Lucretia "Lou" Kasper Smith and Marjorie Bailey Smith; several nieces and nephews; and long time friend, Ann Bolick also survive her.
According to Kathryn's wishes there will be no services at this time.
