Kearney Sigmon

July 4, 1945 — December 3, 2024

Kearney Blake Sigmon, husband, father, grandfather, and the heart of our family, passed peacefully into Eternity on December 3rd, 2024, surrounded by the people whom he loved most. Born July 4th, 1945 to Adrian Marcain and Nannie Myrle Huffman Sigmon, in Hickory, NC. He grew up on Springs Road in a two-bedroom home, with four brothers and one sister. Kearney understood the value of hard work, a principle he carried with him every day of his life, a principle passed on to his two children and seven grandchildren. For him, work was never just about the task, every project and every effort spent was for his family.

Kearney married Peggy Barrier in 1965, and together they built a family based in love, faith, and hard work. Kearney adored Peggy, his partner in every sense of the word. Kearney was also a devoted father to Beth and Maida, and a gracious father-in-law to Eddie and John. Kearney didn’t just love his family, he celebrated all of us. His pride in his children, sons-in-law, and grandchildren was as constant as it was boundless. His love was always clear with jokes, hugs, and encouragement.

Sweet treats may have been his small indulgence—he never met a Frosty or Oreo he didn’t like—but his greatest delight was the time spent with his family. Kearney was happiest when surrounded by his seven grandchildren and the chaos of holidays, the quiet joy of everyday moments, or the laughter of the people he loved. He was strong-willed, resilient, spirited, and fiercely loyal. Kearney was a devout Christian man, who loved church and the Lord most of all. Kearney loved his dogs and music, especially gospel music, and he had a radio in every room of the house. He was always tuned in to Christian Radio; two of his favorite stations were Carolina Calling and The Arthur Smith Show. He appreciated a good story and faced life’s challenges with an unmatched determination. He taught us not just how to live but how to live well, focusing on what truly matters: family, love, and kindness. In honor of Kearney’s incredibly full life, let us celebrate him with the joy he brought us through laughter, stories, and gratitude. He leaves behind not just memories, but a legacy of love that will guide us always.

Kearney is survived by his wife Peggy, his daughters Beth Sigmon McMahan and Maida Sigmon
Cameron, their husbands Eddie McMahan and John Cameron, and his grandchildren Sarah Beth
McMahan, Virginia McMahan Lasek and Alex Lasek, Catherine Blake Cameron Grice and George Grice, IV, Grayson Cameron and Kent Klyman, Catherine McMahan, Adrienne Cameron, and John Hamilton Cameron, his two siblings Neil William Sigmon and Reba Diane Sigmon Pearson.

Kearney is preceded in death by both his parents, Adrian Marcain and Nannie Myrle Huffman Sigmon, and his siblings Gary Wayne Sigmon, Randall Lane Sigmon, Lynn Tyson Sigmon, and Eldon Marcain Sigmon.
