Kenneth Lee Stewart, Sr., 67 of Courtney Drive, Hickory died Friday, March 11, 2011 at Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley. Born March 17, 1943 in Pa. he was the son of Miriam Irene Ottinger Hardy of the home and the late Joseph Gordon Stewart, Sr. Kenneth worked in loss prevention for 12 years with K-mart and later with Wal-mart for five years. He was a loving husband, father and devoted grandfather and was known for his sense of humor. In addition to his wife of 33 years, Mary Catherine “Cathy” Weaver Stewart of the home; two daughters, Kimberly Stewart Jones & husband Corey of Hickory, Shana Starr Stewart of Newton; two sons, Steven James Kauffman & wife Christina of Bradenton, Florida, Kenneth Lee Stewart Jr. of the home; two brothers, Joseph Gordon Stewart of Pinellas Park, Florida, Galen Russell Stewart of Clearwater, Florida; a step-brother, David J. Hardy, Jr. of Kentucky; four grand-children, Sydney Karoline Jones, Gage Ernest Stewart, Bianca Kauffman and Marisa Kauffman and numerous nieces and nephews survive him. A step-father, David J. Hardy Sr. preceded him in death. The family wishes to thank Hospice nurses, Nancy S. and Kirsten B. for their loving care of our husband & father. A Celebration of Kenneth’s life will be 6:00 pm Monday, March 14, 2011 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel on Startown Road. Pastor Ken Swanson of Palliative CareCenter & Hospice will officiate. A gathering of friends will be prior from 5-6:00 pm Monday in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Palliative CareCenter & Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658. Condolence messages may be sent to www.jenkinsfuneralhome.net.
