Larry J. Carpenter

Larry J. "Barkeep" Carpenter was born August 14, 1947 in Lincolnton, NC. He was married to Renee Ramsey Carpenter, his wife of 47 years. They had two children, Carrie Carpenter Hartman Leatherman (Clay) of Vale and Clinton William Carpenter of Lincolnton. Larry passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, at his home with Renee by his side. He will be remembered by many as a kind spirit with a love of travel, adventure and horses. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Forest Carpenter and Mary Dysart Carpenter Wixom, a brother, Daniel Forest Carpenter and a sister, Pamela Carpenter Gorum and a son in law, Andy Hartman. 

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his grandchildren, Seth Hartman (Shannon) and Emma Carpenter, Heather Deyton (Jordan), Matthew Leatherman (Jill) and his great grandsons, Sawyer Hartman and Eli Deyton, as well as his sister Billie Jo Leopard (Ansel Jr.)of Traveler's Rest, SC, sister in law Ramona Ramsey of Lincolnton, NC and three nieces and a nephew. 

His funeral will be at Jenkins Funeral Home, 4081 Startown Road, Newton, NC on Friday, December 27, 2024 at 11:30 am. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral, beginning at 10:30. 

Burial will be private and at a later date. 

Memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse for the victims of Hurricane Helene in the Mountains of NC, St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Lincolnton or Christian Ministry Soup Kitchen of Lincolnton, NC.
