Larry Estes

Rev. Larry James Estes, 63 of Daniel Street, went home to be with the Lord Monday March 31, 2008 at Hospice of Caldwell County. Born August 23, 1944 in Caldwell County, he was the son of the late Richard Caldwell Estes and Beulah Beatrice Greene Estes Reed. His first career was his love of music. He was an accomplished drummer having played in the bands of Loretta Lynn, The Wilburn Brothers and Jerry Lee Lewis. He appeared on the Loretta Lynn and Wilburn Brothers TV shows and performed on the Grand Ole Opry. In 1971 he retired from country music and was called into the Christian ministry. He served as pastor of Miller Baptist Church in Lenoir, Concord Baptist Church in Granite Falls and Mulvale Baptist Church in Collettsville. He was a founding pastor for New Life Baptist Church in Hickory and Community Chapel in Conover. For the past three years he and his wife, Joyce, attended Christian Fellowship Chapel in Granite falls. Where he taught Sunday school and played drums for worship services. He is survived by his loving wife Joyce Evelyn Jordan Estes of the home, a daughter Rebekah Liptak of Hickory, two sons L. Glenn Estes of Durham and Greg Estes of Greenville, SC, a step-daughter, Melissa Hahn of Lenoir, a step-son, Wayne Logsdon of Connelly Springs, two brothers, Raymond Estes of Morganton and Arnold Estes of Lenoir and 12 grandchildren, Stephen, Lauren, Michael and Philip Estes, Jennifer and Julia Estes, Dallas and Ashleigh Hollifield, Nation and Ashton Hahn, Steven Patton and Jordan Edmisten. A Celebration of Larryâ??s life will be 2:00p.m.Thursday April 3, 2008 at Christian Fellowship Chapel, the Pastors Dan Greene, Alan Roberts and Terry Crouse officiating. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. (Wednesday, April 2, 2008) at the church. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Caldwell County 902 Kirkwood Street NW, Lenoir, NC 28645 or to Christian Fellowship Chapel, 99 N. Main Street Granite Falls, NC 28630.
