Larry Green

August 19, 1951 — April 6, 2017

Larry Dwayne Green, 65 of Hickory went home to be with his Lord and Savoir on Thursday, April 6th, 2017 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born August 19th, 1951 he was the son of the late Aurthor Green and Ludine Green. Larry was a minister and served as a circuit pastor for Stevens Village and Beaver Village, Alaska from 1983 until 2013. Larry served in the Army from 1968 to 1971. He was very proud of this experience. During this time he was awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart from injuries sustained in Vietnam from 1969 to 1971. Larry served in the 1st Brigade 5th Mechanized Infantry Recovery. Larry's passion was family, not just his extended family but the many that considered him Dad. Throughout his life he had a very special gift of reaching out to many. The family shared many stories of always having many people around that were in need of love and guidance. While he sought to be a blessing all, the blessing was returned not only to him but to his  family as well. To his children, Dad was greater than life itself. Larry was a member of Marketplace Church in Hickory. Left to cherish wonderful memories are his wife, Dorothy Lucille Haak Green; sons, Shawn D. Green and wife Syntha of Saint Clair Shores, Michigan, Keven D. Green and wife Theresa of Hudson, NC, Pago D. Green of Charlotte, NC and Hunter D. Green of Hickory; grandchildren, Jade B. Green and Sinjin K. Green; sisters, Martha Browning, Mary Burrucker, and Myrtice Wiblin of Florida; brothers, Windol, Quillin, Ronnie and Donnie Green of Florida. Larry had many in his life that considered him Dad as well. Preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jimmy and John Green.  A celebration of his life and honor of his Heavenly Father will be held Saturday 11:00am, April 15th, 2017 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mark Myers officiating. Burial will be 2:00PM Monday April 17th , 2017 at Salisbury National Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends immediately following the ceremony .   Larry held a dear place in his heart and prayers for the homeless, especially those that had shared his deep love and devotion for our country and gave by serving in the military.
