Lester Paul Williams, 72 of 5th Street NE, Hickory died Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born July 11, 1940 in Highland County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Albert Murser and Margie Lee Simmons Williams. When Lester was a little boy, he truly loved squirrel hunting. He was a member of Covenant Baptist Church, a church he dearly loved. He had an inner strength that kept him humble and was a devoted & inseparable husband. Lester retired after working 40 years for the Virginia Department of Transportation. In addition to his wife of 18 years, Delzie Virginia Richards Williams of the home; three daughters, Jennifer Bowles of Culpepper, VA, Jeannie Elmore and husband Rev. Edwin Elmore of Granite Falls and Melissa Shondelmyer and Mike Shondelmyer of Hickory; a sister Geneva Hamilton and husband Ken of Staunton, VA; two brothers, Russell Williams of AL and John Williams of TX; six grand-children, Amanda Morrell, Alexis Shondelmyer, Cheree Gragg, Eric Elmore, Brandon Tyler Bowles, Alyssa Marie Bowles and Mallory McClellan and five great grand-children, Taylor Gragg, Nathaniel Gragg, Jacob Gragg, Luke Gragg and Xavier McClellan and many nieces and nephews survive him. A grand-son, Craig Bruce, Jr., a son, Dean Wagoner; a sister, Ella Mae Helmick; and four brothers, Ralph, Howard, Ernest and Clifton Williams preceded him in death. The funeral will be 1:00 pm Saturday February 2, 2013 at the chapel of Jenkins Funeral Home with his son-in-law, Pastor Edwin Elmore officiating. Entombment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12-1:00pm Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Nathaniel Gragg, Brian Gragg, Eric Elmore, Mark Alan Kanupp, Amanda Morrell, Ken Hamilton, Edwin Helmick and Rusty Townsend.
