Lorraine June Langston Porterfield, 84, of 2600 Croasdaile Farm Parkway, Durham quietly slipped into God’s hands on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Croasdaile Retirement Community after a period of declining health. Born April 21, 1927 in High point, she was the daughter of the late Elijah Louis and Delphia Anna Moore Creech of Timberlake, North Carolina.
She was a faithful homemaker and member of the United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by Charles Noble Langston, her husband of 37 years; by Ira Deward Porterfield, her late husband of 11 years; and by her only son, Dwight Alexander Langston.
Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law; Olivia and Weddie Huffman of Durham, Pam and Michael Rogers of Chapel Hill, and Tamie Jenkins of Conover. She was blessed with many grandchildren; Megan Hadley of Carrboro, Lorie and Preston Royster of Oxford, Jessica and Joe Gates of Cullowhee, Sarah Rogers of Huntersville, Ben Jenkins and LeAnne Jenkins of Conover. Great-grandchildren, Sadie Mae Gates, one and a half, and James Brantley Royster, newborn, may not remember Lorraine Porterfield but will know of the love she had for them through their families.
Graveside services and interment beside Charles Langston are scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church in Cedar Grove, North Carolina with the Reverend Milton Hadley officiating. The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Residential Services, Inc. 1003 West Main Street, Carrboro, NC 27510, for the continued care of mentally challenged children & adults of North Carolina.
