Louis Williams

January 16, 1941 — April 23, 2019

Louis Donald “Don” Williams, 78, died Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at his home in Vale, NC. He was born January 16, 1941 to Ralph Kenneth and Mary Martin Williams in Trumann, AR. Don had battled Alzheimer’s disease for several years.

He attended Trumann, AR schools before joining the US Marine Corps. He trained at Camp Pendleton, San Diego, CA. Later he was based in Arlington, VA and at Millington, TN. After serving honorably in the Marines, he began a career in the furniture tool and die industry in North Carolina. He owned W.W. Machinery in Hickory, NC until he became disabled. He was a member of Daniels Lutheran Church, Lincolnton, NC. He had served as President of the North Carolina Lutheran Men In Misson Organization. He worked in many ways in service to his local church.

A life-long duck hunter, he learned to appreciate the sport as a young child when his father, Ralph Williams, took him hunting along the floodways and rivers of northeast Arkansas. He also enjoyed fishing in lakes of Arkansas and deep sea fishing along the North Carolina and Florida coastlines. Don taught his son and grandsons to hunt and fish and enjoy the outdoors.

Don is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Rita Catherine Williams; daughters Erica Williams (Robert Freeman) of Vale, NC and Tandy Munson (Larry Jr.) of Littleton, CO; son Brian Williams of Vale, NC. Grandchildren include: Katelyn Klocke, Jacob Byers, Evangelia Williams, Alexander Williams, Lillian Williams and Larry Munson III; step grandchildren are Stephanie Munson Montoya, Jennifer Munson Chan, Stacy Munson, Lauren Munson Ornelas, Courtney Freeman and Eric Freeman; great-grandchildren Addison Byers, Charlotte Klocke and numerous step great-grandchildren. In addition, other survivors include two sisters Diana Williams Jones and Susie Williams Dent (Don) of Saltillo, MS; a nephew Jeffery Jones, Savannah, GA; nieces Wendy Pate (Ricky), Alissa Jackson (Kenny) and Alison Dent, all of Tupelo and Saltillo, MS.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Mary Williams, two half-sisters Margaret Williams Bussjaeger and Louise “Midget” Williams.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at Daniels Lutheran Church, 3170 Reepsville Rd, Lincolnton, NC 28092. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. A service will follow in the Sanctuary at 2 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Lincoln County, 900 Dontia Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092 and Daniels Lutheran Church.
