Emma Louise Collie, 92 of Hickory died Tuesday, January 26, 2021 after a brief stay at Carolina Caring in Newton, NC. Born February 16th, 1928 in Union, SC, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Arthur Briggs and Doralee McMehan Briggs. Louise was a loving and devoted wife and mother for more than 70 years following a brief career with DuPont Company in Charlotte, NC. While caring for her family, she enjoyed successful part-time careers for many years as a seamstress and as an Avon sales representative in the Hickory area. She was active for many years in the Home Extension Club in Hickory. Her many talents included playing the piano, painting, and sewing. An avid reader, she was a life-long student of the Bible, and taught a women’s Sunday School class at Highland Baptist Church. She never tired of growing in her faith, was involved in daily Bible studies well into her late 80s, and was an example of the Christian faith for others—especially her family—throughout her life. Her favorite hymn was one she learned from her husband early in their relationship, No one Ever Cared for me like Jesus, and it became “their song.” The legacy Louise leaves behind is one of love and commitment – to her Lord, her husband, and her family who celebrates her homegoing. The family is grateful for the extended services of Carolina Caring, which allowed her to enjoy a better quality of life in her home—with daily visits from family members.
Louise is survived by a daughter, Dianne Duke (Alton "Sailor") of Monroe; four sons, Reid Collie (Jean) of Hickory, Wayne Collie (Cindy) of Waxhaw, Darrell Collie (Lisa) of Simpsonville, SC, and Alan Collie (Kim) of Newton; a daughter-in-law, Kim Collie of Salisbury, three brothers, Johnnie Briggs (Annemarie) of SC, Thomas Briggs (Helen) of SC, and Roy Briggs (Ann) of SC; a sister, Patsy Stuckey of SC; fourteen grandchildren: Tracy Stilwell, Brian Stilwell (Beth), Ray Duke, Scott Duke, Mike Collie (Randi), David Vines (Lorissa), Tommy Vines, Tim Collie (Camille), Jeff Collie (Ashley), Ashley Mauldin (Van), Matthew Collie, Seth Collie (Kelsey), Tori Collie, and Gracie Collie; and 14 great-grandchildren, Noah, Jude, and Ella Stilwell, Logan, Reece, and Graham Collie, Chloe Vines, Lauren and Meredith Collie, Carson and Hudson Collie; and Eli, Landon, Mackynzie, Jaxon, and Ayla Mauldin.
