Lucas Drake Ervin, 24 of Nottingham Drive, Newton died Friday September 28, 2012 at Caldwell Hospital. Born November 20, 1987 in Catawba County, he was the son of Joel Dwayne Smith of Newton and Linda Kay Ervin Fowler of Kissimmee, Florida. Luke was a student at C.V.C.C. He enjoyed music of all kinds and played the drums, guitar and trumpet. His grandfather, Bill Smith, Sr; and cousin, Trey Smith preceded him in death. In addition to his parents, Joel Smith and Karen of Newton and Linda Kaye Fowler and husband John of Florida; two brothers, Austin Caldwell of Hickory and James Fowler of Kissimmee, Florida; aunts and uncles include, Bill and Sherry Smith of Lenoir, Christopher and Brandy Keener of Newton, Lisa Hill of Hickory, David Keener of Port Arthur, TX, Bobbie and Dan Skidmore of Germany and Leslie and Bobby Benson of Newton; grandparents include, James and Eleanor Ervin of Hickory and Robert Fowler of Catawba; Sherrard Smith of Newton, Buck and Brenda Keener of Hickory, great grand-parents, Paul and Barbara Whitley; great aunt and uncle, Mary Katherine Lewis and husband David of Newton; cousins, Shannon Lewis of Newton, Sherrard Lewis of Statesville, Blake Skidmore, Rolen Benson, Benjamin Benson, Ashley Benson, Jake Smith, Justin Keever, Whitney Keever, Hailey Keever, Wesley Blakley, Dylan Blakely and Leylon Keener survive him. The Memorial Service will be 4:00 p.m. Monday, October 1, 2012 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Stephen Disher will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service, in the chapel. Memorials may be made to The American Heart Association, P.O.
