Biography Lula Mae Powell Willis, 94, formerly of Jarrett Road died Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. Born October 28, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Doc James Powell and Bessie Smith Powell. Lula had a great love for her church and was very active with Grace nutrition site there. She was an avid gardener and quilter. She loved her grand-children and babysat for each of them at various times in their lives. A daughter, Hazel Willis Bentley & husband Dale of Newton; two sons, Grady Willis & wife Nancy and Dale Willis & wife Evelyn, both of Newton; 10 grand-children, Lori Stillwell, Kim Davis, Dana Setzer, Scott Willis, John Killian, Randy Willis, Dayne Willis, Darren Willis, Cory Willis and Michael Lefevers; 14 great grand-children and 9 great, great grand-children survive her. In addition to her late husband, James Thomas Willis Sr.; two sons, Donald Willis and James Thomas Jr.; four sisters and two brothers, preceded her in death. The funeral will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, October 24, 2011 at Grace Lutheran Church in Newton. The family will receive friends from 1:30-3 p.m. at the church. Pastor?s Gene Bruce and Larry Yoder will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
