Lynne Workman

d. January 25, 2025

Lynne Herndon Workman peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus on January 25, 2025 after a four year struggle with dementia. Lynne was born April 21, 1954 to the late Wallace and Jo Anne Herndon. A lifetime resident of Hickory, she graduated from St. Stephens High School, Wingate College, and Appalachian State University. Lynne was a beloved elementary school teacher for 31 years in Alexander County and Catawba County. She loved her students and kept in touch with many of them through the years.

Lynne was funny, smart, and creative. She enjoyed singing, Bible study, walks with Steve, trips to the mountains, and spending time with her family, friends, and cats. Her life was a reflection of her faith and hope in Jesus Christ. Always giving and always encouraging, she loved deeply and brought joy to those who knew her.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 34 years, Steve Workman; her sister and brother-in-law, Amy and Jerry Church; her nephew and his wife, Isaac and Faith Church, of Boone, NC; grandnephew, Walker Church; grandniece, Ivey Church; her stepdaughter and her husband, Amber and Jody DelVechio, of Newton, NC; step-grandson, Jaydon DelVechio; and a close first cousin, Janice Williams, of Raleigh, NC.

Lynne was preceded in death by her step-granddaughter, Madison Workman.

Lynne’s family is very grateful for all the love, prayers, visits, and support that so many of you have given to Lynne these past four years.

A special thank you to the friends and caregivers who stayed with Lynne and cared for her during this difficult season of her life. God bless you all!

A celebration of Lynne’s life will be held at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Hickory Bible Church located at 909 US 70 SW, Hickory, NC. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, from 2:30 to 3:30 PM.
