Margaret Whitener

Margaret Ann Willis Whitener of Short Road Hickory died Friday, July 4, 2008 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born on October 30, 1924 she was the daughter of the late Dan Neil and Etta Willis Neil. She was a wonderful devoted mother and wife who dearly loved children. She was a Sunday school teacher at Berea Baptist Church for 20 years, and worked in daycare for 30 years. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Charlie Robert Whitener of the home, two daughters, Linda Gerald of Blowing Rock, and Deborah Gail Heavner of Morganton; one son, Donald Heavner of Hickory, three grandchildren; John Bradley Short of Texas, Jenna and Jordan Heavner of Hickory; one great grandchild; Chandler Short of Texas. A celebration of Margaretâ??s life will be at 2:00 P.M. Monday July 7, with Reverend Jerome Walker officiating with internment at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service 12:00 P.M. at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Gateway Baptist Church Building Fund at 3105 Sandy Ford Road, Newton, NC 28658.
