Martha Thomas

Martha Harklerode Thomas 71 of Hickory died Thursday March 13th, 2014 at her residence in Hickory. Born September 15th, 1942 she was the daughter of the late Herman Earl Harklerode and Pearl Johnson Harklerode. Martha always had a song to sing and was a member of Women's Aglow. She served on the Hickory City Council for two terms. Martha was a huge supporter of Veterans and youth causes and a strong witness for the Lord. A son, Van Harklerode and wife Manuela of, Bossier City, LA: three sisters, Joyce Evans and husband Doug of Morganton, Mary Belle Henline and husband John of Marion and Janice Guffey and husband Gary of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Gordon Harklerode and wife Elaine of Icard; four grandchildren, Lana Harklerode Mays, Cissy Harklerode, Nicole Harklerode and Shane D.Harklerode and four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews survive her. In addition to her husband of 19 years, Henry Link Thomas, three sisters, Norma Hogan, Geraldine Brown and Christine Guffey; and four brothers, Bud Harklerode, Jack Harklerode, Glenn Harklerode and C.W. Harklerode preceded her in death. The funeral will be 3:00 pm Sunday March 16th, 2014 at Hickory First Assembly of God with Rev. Mark Dolphens, Sr. officiating. Burial will be 11:00am Monday March 17, 2014 at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:45 pm Sunday March 16th, 2014 at Hickory First Assembly of God.
