Mary Lee Buchanan English, 81 of 19th Street NW, died Friday April 20, 2007 at Frye Regional Medical Center. Born June 20, 1925 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Lecil Truett and Maggie Ethel Sullins Buchanan. Prior to retirement she worked in Quality Control in the textile industry. Survivors are two daughters; Donna Read of the home and Diane and husband, Melvin Hawn, Sr. of Hickory, a son; Steve English, Jr. and wife Tamara of Hickory, six grandchildren; Steve English, III, Mary Alicia English, Tammy Dotson, Melvin Hawn, Jr., Nick Stearns and Crystal Winkler; and four great grandchildren. Her husband, Steve Wade English, Sr., a WWII Veteran, a son, Freddie English and a brother, Benny Buchanan preceded her in death. A Celebration of Maryâ??s life will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday April 24, 2007 at Gateway Baptist Church in Newton. Pastors Jerome Walker and Mike McKinney will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday at the church. Pallbearers will be David Dotson, Melvin Hawn, Jr., Donald Hawn, Neil Hawn, Darren Buchanan and Sherman Moretz. Memorials may be made to Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658, to Gateway Baptist Church Building Fund 3105 Sandy Ford Road, Newton, NC 28658 or to Royal Chapel Church of God, 7190 George Hildebran Rd.
