Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Jordan passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, in North Carolina.
She was born to H.H. and Pauline Dupriest in 1924 in Macon, Georgia.  They moved to Lake City, Florida in 1925 where she graduated from Columbia High School in 1942 and then from Macon Hospital School of Nursing in 1946, where she was a US Cadet Nurse. Betty married Robert D. Jordan on August 18, 1946 and they moved to Gainesville, FL.  Betty was a registered nurse at several Gainesville hospitals and retired from the V.A. in 1987 working seven more years with Children's Medical Services and volunteering with Hospice. Betty was a devoted Christian, wife, mother and grandmother and a member of North Central Baptist Church then Living Faith Fellowship Church.  She was active in Nurses for Christ for over 20 years, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 16 for over 50 years and a member of the Republican Women's Group. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Robert D. Jordan and is survived by her son Joseph R. Jordan, her daughter Jill Elizabeth Hellstrom, her granddaughter Merih Elizabeth Atagun and seven nieces and nephews. Betty spent her life in service of others and was surrounded by people that loved her when she transitioned; she had a smile on her face until she could smile no more and refused intervention as she was ready to go home. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Williams-Thomas Funeral Home Westarea, 823 NW 143rd street, with Pastor Rudy Valladares officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to service beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Interment will be Monday, July 3, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. in Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.    Please sign the online guestbook at www.jenkinsfuneralhome.net.
