Mary Mcalpin

Mary Rebecca McAlpin 89 of Newton died March 17, 2013 at her residence. Born January 25, 1924 she was the daughter of the late Lawrence Widdows and Lizzie Lyde. She was one of the most gentle souls and very supportive of her family and friends. She will be greatly missed. A daughter, Lydia Ann Fortwengler and husband Gary of Lenoir; a granddaughter, Shannon Mincer and husband Charles of Newton; a great grandson, Isaiah Mincer; a sister-in-law, Marion Widdows of Thomasville; two neices and a nephew; a brother-in-law, Don McAlpin and wife Edith of Hickory; two sister-in-laws, Alethia Smith of Granite Falls and Marcella McAlpin of Bethlehem; a family friend, Melina Boggs of Sherrills Ford and her family friend and caregiver, Diana Mowery and friend, Tom Burkhalter of Long View survive her. Her husband of 51 years, William Harold McAlpin and her brother, James Widdows preceded her in death. The funeral will be 4:00 pm Thursday March 21, 2013 at Jenkins Funeral Home with Brother-in-law, Don McAlpin officiating. Burial will follow at Liledown Baptist Church Cemetery in Taylorsville. The family will receive friends from 3-4:00 pm Thursday March 21, 2013 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
