Mary Woods

Ms. Mary Weida “Rose” Woods, 72, of Newton passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018, at Catawba Regional Hospice, following a period of declining health. Ms. Woods was born November 8, 1945, in Catawba County, to the late Floyd Setzer and Elizabeth Katherine Connor. She was a graduate of Central High School in Newton. Never afraid of work, her employment career spanned over many, many years at Catawba Valley Finishing, Newton Cafe, Regency Bedspreads, and Catawba Valley Medical Center; but her most loved profession was "Nana” and “Grandma Weida”. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Lewis Wood, and sisters, Elizabeth Gabriel, Virginia Ramseur, and Judy Connor.

Survivors include her daughters, Sheena Sligh and companion, Eric Pearson of Newton, Tina Propst of the home, Tracy Crenshaw and husband, Michael of Rocky Mount, Angel Linebarger and husband Kevin of Conover, Jessica Wofford Hampton and Patrick of Newton, and Erica Connor and husband Todd of Hickory; a very “special daughter”, Shelia Scott of Newport News, Virgina; a very "special son", Anthony Connor of Knoxville, Tennessee; 14 grandsons, Samuel Sligh, Preston Woods, Phillip Bryant, Brittain Sligh, Joseph Bryant, Franklin Bryant, Tyon Propst, Justus Woods, Troi Thomas, Treigh Thomas, London Woods, Dalais Woods, Kevin Linebarger, Jr., Isaiah Linebarger;11 great-grandchildren; brother, William (Bill) Woods and wife Adline of Newton and sister Helen Connor of Newton. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday Feb. 17, at Jenkins Funeral Home and Cremation Service with Pastor Nathaniel Craig officiating.
