Melba Elizabeth Huffman Flowers, 88, of Conover went to the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior in His Heavenly Kingdom, Friday October 21, 2011, after several years of declining health. Melba was born May 15, 1923 in Catawba County. She was the last living of eleven children born to the late David Monroe Huffman and Bonnie Leona Starnes Huffman. In addition to her loving husband of 37 years, Claude Pinkney Flowers; five brothers, Edwin, Claude, Cecil, Walter and Buford Huffman; five sisters, Bleaka Lutz, Zelma Flowers, Doris Detter, Evelyn Ritchie and Edith Herman preceded her in death. She was member of Augustana Lutheran Church, where she attended regularly. She had worked in the hosiery and furniture industries. She loved to garden and always had some kind of food for her family when they visited. She will be missed by all who knew her. A daughter, Virginia and her husband Gary Price of Conover, three grandchildren, Dale Price of Hickory, Emma Proffitt and partner, Jackie Sheets of Vale and Michelle (Dee) and her husband Shawn Ward of Claremont; nine great-grandchildren, Sara Tedder, Daley Price, lll, Alexis Ward, Cora Price, Cain Price, David Proffitt, Harley Ward, Trevor Ward and Dakota Sheets; and a sister-in-law, Joyce Madaris Huffman of Hickory survive her. The funeral service will be 3:00 pm Tuesday at Augustana Lutheran Church with Rev. Andrew D. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Monday at Jenkins Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home of her daughter, Virginia Price, 1211 Fairgrove Church Rd. Conover.
