Melba Winters

Melba Jean Winters, 88, passed away peacefully at Carolina Caring, Jan. 14, 2022, after a period of declining health.
She was born April 12, 1933, Burke County, to the late Moran Jordan Barrier and Mabel Whittington Barrier. She was preceded on death by her husband of 71 years, Clarence Winters; three sons Clifford Allen, Douglas Arthur, Marion Lavell; one sister and one brother.
Melba is survived by three sons, Marlon Lavon (Rhonda) of Asheboro, Larry D. Winters (Vickie) of Hudson, and Keith Winters of the home. She is also survived by Loree Stackhouse (Mason) of Panaca, NV., and one brother, Clifford Wade Barrier of Salisbury. Additional survivors include grandchildren, David Winters(Susan) of Clemson, SC., Jeremy Winters (Andrea) of Statesville, Alicia Robinson (Neil) of Mount Holly, Lynette Brewer (Aaron) of Mooresville, Paige Stanich of Statesville, Cameron Reed (Shannon) of Highland, Utah, Richard Winters (Savannah) of Sandy, Utah, Krista Patrick (Thomas) of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Megan Boring(Wade) of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Michael Winters (Jalisa) of Logan, Utah, Robert Winters of Panaca, NV., and 20 great-grandchildren.
She worked with the food services of Hickory City Schools, starting as a cafeteria worker at Kenworth and Jenkins Elementary Schools, food service manager at Oakwood Elementary and retired as food service manager at College Park Middle School after 30 years of service to the Hickory City Schools. She was also active with the School Nutrition Services of North Carolina. She was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in multiple positions within the Women's Relief Society, Young Women's Association, and the Children's Primary Association.

The service will be held at Jenkins Funeral home Chapel at 2:00 pm Saturday January 22,2022. The family will receive family and friends Prior to service at Jenkins Funeral Home, Startown Road, Newton Saturday January 22,2022 from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. A private burial service will be held at the White Pine Cemetery in Newland at a later date.
