Melvin Lee Little, 90, of Abernethy Laurels, formerly of Hickory, died Tuesday, September 25th, 2018, at Catawba Valley Medical Center after a brief illness. Born June 20th, 1928, he was the son of the late Marshall Little and Amy Lawing Little. Melvin was co-founder of Dixie Boat Works, which built and sold family pleasure boats all along the Eastern seaboard. He was an accomplished photographer and long time member of Catawba Valley Camera Club, winning many awards including photographer of the year. His photos were exhibited at competitions around the world garnering numerous awards. Melvin's numerous hobbies included water and snow skiing, golfing, hunting, deep sea fishing, white water rafting, flying his private planes, going to bluegrass music festivals and he even dabbled in wine making.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Tera Little Rockett and Bruce M Rockett of Newton, Tanya Little Hodge and Stephen Hodge of Denver, Jill Little Huter (Lisa) and Jurgen Huter of Cary, two beloved grandsons, Carson Huter and Connelly Huter of Cary, sister Elsie Kale of Sherrills Ford, brother Clarence (Smokey) Little of Conover and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, two brothers Willie Little and Tommy Little and a sister Gaynell Sherrill preceded him in death.
The funeral will be 12:00 pm Friday, September 28th, 2018, at First United Methodist Church Conover with The Rev. Dr. Gary Royals officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am-12:00 pm Friday, September 28th, 2018, at First United Methodist Church Conover .
