Melvin Tomblin

Melvin Tomblin, Sr., 89 of Johnny Martin Lane, Stony Point, died Tuesday December 26, 2006 at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville. Born October 17, 1917 in Logan County WV, he was the son of the late Josiah and Alpha Hensley Tomblin. For many years he was a carpenter with Moss-Marlow Construction Company. He was a man who loved the Lord, his wife Martha and his thirteen children. He worked hard to provide the needs of his family. His wife, Martha Workman Tomblin, a daughter, Rhoda Tomblin, his stepmother, Margaret Tomblin, two brothers, Willie Tomblin and Ishmael Tomblin, three sisters, Orie Tomblin, Corie Farris and Cubie Kelly and three grandchildren, preceded him in death. He is survived by seven sons, Ironton (Art) Tomblin and wife Donna of Taylorsville, Josiah (Joe) Tomblin and wife Wilma of Cleveland Tenn., Merrill Tomblin and wife Betty of Rhodhiss, Johnny Tomblin and wife Elaine of Stony Point, James Luther (Duke) Tomblin and wife Kathy of Hickory, Melvin Tomblin, Jr. and wife Mildred of Hickory and Charles Tomblin and wife Terri of Connelly Springs; five daughters, Mary Rudisill and husband Tommy of Mountain View, Byrle Browning and husband Joe of Barkerâ??s Fork, WV, Alpha Buchanan and husband Bobby of Claremont, Rosetta Adkins and husband Clifford of Godby Branch, WV and Donna Kade and husband George of Rutherford College; twenty nine grandchildren and twenty nine great grandchildren. A celebration of Melvinâ??s life will be 1:00 p.m. Friday December 29, 2006 at Gateway Baptist Church. Pastor Stan Frye and Pastor Jerome Walker will officiate. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6:30-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the church. The family would like to give special thanks to Hospice of Alexander County, those whom cared for Melvin and to a special caregiver, Ruby Charles.
