Michael Younghouse

Michael Edgar Younghouse, 69, of Newton passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at his home. Born March 8th, 1953, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Robert Harry Younghouse and Evelyn Gertrude Younghouse.
Michael attended Bloomfield Hills Lahser High School and graduated in 1971. He went to Concordia Lutheran Jr. College and graduated in 1973 with an AA degree. He then attended Concordia Lutheran College in River Forest and graduated in 1975 with a BA degree. He taught in the Lutheran schools for 17 years as a teacher, athletic director, coach, and principal. He was the executive director of The Boys and Girls Club for ten years. He finished his teaching career at CVCC where he taught mentally challenged young adults. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church where he served as elder, head elder, chairman of call committee. He also developed the youth basketball program at the church, and the adult volleyball league. He was a Patriotic American and avid sports enthusiast. Michael was a beloved father and papa; his favorite moments were spending time with family and watching his grandchildren play sports.
He is survived by three sons, Scott Younghouse (Jess), Kurt Younghouse (Jes), and Brad Younghouse (Sydney); seven grandchildren, Kathryn, Monroe, Theodore, Quincy, Lincoln, Harrison, and Savannah; a brother Dr. Robert Younghouse (Karen); and two sisters, Pam Oates (Ray), and Marilyn Haas-Haseman (Michael).
In addition to his parents, Robert Younghouse and Evelyn Younghouse, he is preceded in death by his wife, Janet Younghouse.
The visitation will be 1PM on Monday, January 2nd at Christ Lutheran Church located at 324 2nd Ave. SE, Hickory NC 28602, followed by a memorial service at 2PM with Pastor Alec Fisher officiating. A private inurnment service will be held with family members only.
The family encourages those attending to wear red, white, and blue in honor of Michael’s love of America.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Christ Lutheran Church in the name of Michael Younghouse.
