Mildred Nissel

December 25, 1927 — March 2, 2020

Mildred (Millie) Louise Nissel, 92, of Mineral, Virginia was always surrounded by loving family and friends until she passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, Fredericksburg, Virginia after a short illness.

Born December 25, 1927 in Pennsylvania, she attended Highspire High School and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Lancaster, PA.  Millie worked as an RN for many years at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. Previous residences have been in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Florida and Texas.

She and her husband John Edward (Ed) of 69 years, (now deceased) were full time RV’ers for many years crisscrossing the United States and enjoying the travel, fishing, and friendships along the way and spent time in south Texas and Florida for many of their winters.

Millie lived independently, was a young minded, feisty, witty individual who loved to read, work on puzzles, walking, the outdoors and enjoyed outings and visits with friends and family.  She was a loveable, caring wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and a great-great grandmother.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Rose nelson, a sister, Josephine Grubb and a brother, Carl Nelson.

Millie is survived by a brother, Leonard Nelson and wife Irene; children, Linda Louise Wilson (spouse Lacey C. Wilson, Jr. deceased), Kathleen Rose Nissel, and Thomas Edward Nissel and spouse Cheryl Hoovler; a cousin Jean Leonard; four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, three great grand children, ten step-great grand children, eight step great-great grandchildren.

A Mass will be held in honor of Millie at St. Aloysius Catholic Church for friends and family 2:00 pm Saturday June 27, 2020. A reception will be held following from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at the home of Kathy Nissel.

Services will be held in Hickory, NC at a later date and will be announced by Jenkins Funeral Home.
