Miriam Williams Johnston, 68, of Mount Holly, NC passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 16, 2019, at University Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born December 22, 1950, she was the third daughter of the William Thomas Williams Jr and Naomi Williams.
Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, Miriam obtain her education and graduated from the Baltimore City School System. After completing high school, Miriam learned that she liked assemble things with her hands. With this skill, she obtained a job at General Motors manufacturing cars. It is unclear when Miriam and her then boyfriend, Maurice Johnston met, but they eventually became steady and hard their one and only son, Courtney, in 1983. In early 1987, Miriam decide to move to North Carolina to be with her sister, Naomi Jenkins. While residing in North Carolina, Miriam gained employment at various companies such as Duracell/Saft, Continental Teves, and Hi-tech Fuses. Throughout the course of Miriam’s life, she made many memories with many friends and family.
Miriam is survived by her son, Courtney Johnston of Mount Holly, NC; her nephews Aaron Beasley of Morganton, NC and George Jenkins Jr of Dallas, TX; a niece, Cynthia Edmonds of Baltimore, MD; and a handful of great nieces and great nephews.
Miriam’s father, William Thomas Williams Jr, her mother Naomi Williams, her sisters Gloria Hopewell and Naomi, brother Chillion ‘Chi’ Williams, along with her nephew Stevie Hopewell precedes her in death.
Her Celebration of Life will be held 7:00 pm Friday July 26, 2019 at His Image Ministries in Hickory with Pastor Sheila Spencer officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm Friday, July 26th, 2019 at His Image Ministries 1855 6th St SE, Hickory, NC 28602.
