Ola Underwood

Ola Cockerham Underwood, 81 of Granite Falls formerly of Newton went to her Heavenly home Thursday, November 6th, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice House. Born in Winston-Salem May 26th, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Posey Oscar and Annie Hartle Cockerham. She and her husband owned and operated Uni-four Ice Company in Valdese and Little Miss and Masters Day Care in Startown. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her special friend, Reggie York of Wilkesboro; a son, Jonathan Underwood and wife Dana of Spartanburg, SC; three daughters, Sharon Elmore of Bethlehem, Mary Lou Miller and husband Dale of Hickory and Susan Bumgarner of Troutman and son-in-law Johnny Bumgarner of Newton; son-in-law, Bob Rudisill of Hickory; 11 grandchildren, Adam and wife Kelly Elmore, Jessica Elmore, Mandy and husband Eric Ferguson, Misty Gunter, Stephanie Rudisill and fiance Chad Henkin, Ashley and husband Cody Campbell, Brooke and husband Barry Taylor, Lauren and husband Caleb Berry, Harrison, Savannah and Seth Underwood; 15 great grandchildren, Carter Elmore, Ada, Bella and Cale Ferguson, Rylee Gunter, Jillian and Hallee Lackey, Mina, Nomi, Micah and Robert Henkin, Parker Campbell, Paige Houston, Ansleigh and Preston Taylor survive her. Her husband of 54 years, J. Henry Underwood, a daughter, Jill Underwood Rudisill and son-in-law Steven Elmore preceded her in death. The funeral will be 11:00 am Monday, November 10th, 2014 at Jenkins Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Reginald Pugh officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4-5:30 pm Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to her church, Grace Gospel 748 Fourth Street SW, Hickory, NC 28602.
