Paul Killian Propst, 86 of Alexandria, VA, formerly of the Startown Community, died Saturday May 31, 2008 in Fairfax Hospital. Born August 8, 1921 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Carroll Milton Propst and Lizzie Killian Propst. He was a 1938 graduate of Startown High School and a 1942 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College. He worked for several years in Foreign Service with the US State Department as an accountant serving time in Kabul, Afghanistan, El Salvador, and Nuremberg, Germany. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran. Two brothers, C. Melvin Propst of Conover and Adrian Sidney Propst of Silver Spring, MD survive him. In addition, survivors include six nieces, Elaine P. Garner of Conover, Adelia P. Tucker and husband Winford of Mt. Holly, Martha P. Bell and husband Martin of Silver Spring, MD, Barbara Propst of Calif., Paula Bechtel of Pocatello, Idaho and Becky Boertman and husband Robert of Haley, Idaho and six nephews, Kenneth L. Propst of Tucson, Arizona, Sidney Propst and wife Ann of Brevard, NC, Lamar Propst and wife Betsy of Brevard, NC, David Propst and wife Jane of Centerville, GA, Tony Propst and wife, Barbara of Austell, GA, and Stephen Hass of Hickory. A sister, Anna Geneva P. Setzer and a brother, Norman Wiley Propst preceded him in death. A graveside service celebrating Paulâ??s life will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church Cemetery. Pastor Randall Cauble will officiate.
