Peggy Atkinson

Peggy Mitchell Atkinson, 89, of Ashville passed away Thursday, November 30th, 2017 at Shaire Center in Lenoir. Born June 23rd, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Harry Mitchell and Margaret Williamson Mitchell. Peggy was a native of Ashville and lived there all her life, and was a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Ashville. She was a loving wife, mother, and a devout Christian. A daughter Eileen A. Hartwell and husband David of Durham, two sons James R. Atkinson and wife Pamela of Fairview, Mitch Atkinson and wife Lane of Granite Falls; six grandchildren Kathryn Langston, Zach Hartwell, Justin Atkinson, Chris Atkinson, Jennifer Riddle, Nick Atkinson; 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild survive her. In addition to her parents; her husband of 59 years James Murphy Atkinson and her sister Louise Ruth preceded her in death.    The funeral will be 12:00 pm Friday, December 8th, 2017 at Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Nancy D. Walton officiating. Burial will follow at State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am-12:00 pm Friday, December 8th, 2017 at the Church .   Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church in Ashville.
